I think that, you know, when I,

clothes, laptop and everything, I do try to read and I try to escape, you know, my own head and my own characters a little bit when just banging my head on the laptop is not doing either of us any favors.

So I think when it comes to the heavier stuff, honestly, I think I really let myself feel it and write it.

And then when I'm really sent on it, I take a break and I'm like,

read something else.

I love stand-up.

I like watching stand-up specials and, you know, looking for those types of things that sort of take me out of my own head.

trying to get more balanced with it as I go.

Like everybody, I have a complicated relationship with it.

I think as I've gone along, like in the beginning, I definitely feel like I owed a little bit of something to it.

And it's served me as a useful tool.

But the thing that I try to really stick to now is it is a tool.

It is not the tool.

Like I...

I'm always focused on improving and not proving.

And so I'm not going to focus on things like color count and engagement and that sort of thing when I could focus on my craft and writing.

And so that to me is always going to be priority.

I think when I wrote Funny Feelings specifically, it was the first time I thought, if I write a good enough book, enough people will talk about it.

And that is very simplistic and takes a lot.
