So before we wrap up, I checked with the American Psychiatric Association and found it interesting that they made the point that dissociative identity disorder is a combination of events that felt overwhelming and inescapable to a child, which we've discussed, combined with their specific developmental stage, temperament, support system, and capacity to cope.
