So I was very fortunate to get a job offer to work for Boston Consulting Group, which is one of the big strategy consulting firms.

And that really appealed to me because actually I was one of those children who never knew what I wanted to do when I grew up.

And

Strategy consulting felt to me like a great first job for someone who didn't know what they wanted to do because I would get to experience lots of different industries.

I didn't just want to consult and just be focused on the strategy side of things.

And so after three years in consulting, I took the leap and I moved into industry, starting off, first of all, working for a company that was called EMAP, which at the time was a FTSE 100 media company with hundreds of magazines, radio stations, and also digital products and events.

So when I was in my late 20s, I went to Stanford University in California to study for my MBA.

And I did that because when I was working at EMAP, the company had gone from being a stock market darling to being in the doldrums.

And I can remember a sort of revolving door of professional advisors coming in, talking to the CEO.

And I was working very closely alongside the CEO at that time.

And I can remember just thinking,

I don't ever want to be in a position where I don't have just a good, solid grounding of all of the core aspects of business, because otherwise you're potentially quite vulnerable to all of these advisors coming in and not necessarily giving you the right advice for your business.

So at the time I was living and working in Switzerland and I was still working in the corporate world.

Whilst I had a CV that looked great and the headhunters liked it, I wasn't inspired by myself.

And I would think if I were to die tomorrow, would I be proud?

And the answer at that point in time was no.

So I knew I wanted to do something entrepreneurial.

I knew I wanted to have a positive impact on the world.

But I then unfortunately wasted a couple of years waiting for an idea.
