So the stuff that was great about it was they really helped level up the organization, brought in new systems and processes.
The challenge with that, though, was that our cost base went through the roof.
And unfortunately, our revenues did not grow as quickly.
So we had to go through a very, very difficult process.

So the organization was over 100 people at its height.
Today, we're down at 40 people.
But I have to say that 40 people who are just mission-obsessed, super high performers, plus coupled with the superpower that is AI, means that we are able to deliver far more now than we've ever been able to.

We now refer to ourselves as a startup again, because I think that when we went into the scale up phase, we lost a lot of what is so powerful about being a startup, which is an ability to move quickly to test and to learn.
I think if we were to do it again today, we would probably look more at a model where we think, how can we supplement our existing team?
Perhaps we get them some coaching, some mentoring.
Perhaps we do a consultancy project for a couple of months to help the organization get through that step change.
Because actually, I've learned that...
Getting the right sort of cultural fit is a far harder thing to do than actually to upskill existing people who are mission obsessed to get your culture, who are bright, have got a growth mindset.
How does Olio make money then?
We make money through charging businesses for the service we provide.
So at the moment, businesses are having to pay waste contractors and that food is then taken off to waste streams.
Instead, they now pay us and we make sure that food is taken away every single day and redistributed to lots of local families in the community.
And we then share back with those businesses their impact data.
