Hey there, we are Indosport.
This is an Irish Independent Podcast.
On the afternoon of November 23rd, 2023, in Dublin's Parnell Square, three children were seriously injured following a stabbing attack in broad daylight.
Riad Boushaker was arrested and charged in connection with the incident and now, two and a half years on, his trial is underway.
Day one of proceedings saw the prosecution lay out their case as well as testimony from the mother of one of the children who was injured.
I'm Tessa Fleming, and today on this extra episode of the IndoDaily, I'm joined by special correspondent with the Irish Independent, Catherine Fegan, who takes us inside the courtroom.
Catherine Fegan, the trial of Riyadh Bhushakar is now underway.
It started on Wednesday of this week.
You have been in court for that first day of the trial.
Could you maybe just start by telling us exactly what Riyadh Bhushakar is charged with?
Now, it's obviously a case that the whole country had heard of.
It made headlines across all medias.
But jurors have been advised not to bring baggage or opinion to this case.
So could you maybe just elaborate on that?
There was also a note for jurors regarding Mr. Boushiker's concentration levels.
Just tell me about that.
Catherine, this is, of course, day one of the trial and proceedings will continue today, which is Thursday.
But the court heard from the mother of one of the girls who was stabbed in the attack.
