because it sort of makes good sense if you look at the numbers, just the injury rates with pitchers, but also rebuilding in a big market, we knew we didn't have forever.
You've got to hit on your first round picks and you can't afford too many misses or someone else is going to be coming in and running it in Chicago.
It's not like a small market where you might have
a decade to rebuild, like we had to do it right away.
So if you look at the hit rates with first round picks and high first round picks, position players, much, much greater certainty than with pitchers.
Obviously, position players stay a lot healthier.
And at the time, it was real tough to break in young pitching into the big leagues.
Now, I think it's flipped with the way modern pitching has evolved.
Now, I think it's almost easier to break in young pitching.
It's really hard for young bats.
I agree.
If you throw 100 and you can throw strikes, you're fast-tracked.
But back then, that was the end of the era where it was harder to break in young pitching.
So I was like, you know what?
