As I said, NATO is a defence alliance.
Ireland's not part of that.
This is not part of the NATO discussions.
Nothing to do with NATO.
Where the where the European Union comes in is along the lines of what she discussed yesterday, which is how can we give
I suppose what do Member States want in addition to to NATO, for those Member States that are in NATO?
She's talking about hybrid threats, and I think that that makes a huge amount of sense.
And that's not about um, you know, making making offensive weapons simply to fight war.
It's about protecting our societies, protecting our people, protecting our health service from cyber attacks, for example.
Uh that's that's what that's about.
Um but uh
So I I think some of that is is really seriously overplayed and and doesn't really bear any relationship to the facts.
Well, the reason I'm optimistic is because if we don't do it by the end of this year, we won't be ready for the first of january twenty twenty eight.
And that means that farmers not just in Ireland, but across Europe or rural development projects or cohesion funds or businesses or universities may be waiting on funds.
Um and there's no government in the EU going to uh I I think going to allow that to happen.
We have to compromise.
There are twenty seven Member States.
This needs the agreement of all of them unanimously.
So not everybody is going to get everything that they want.
And we have to make sure that we can find the compromise.
