And sure enough, she could come back and talk to us about what she had drawn.

And it could be about a conflict she had with her brother or something.

Anything, really anything.

Something she's trying to tell us that maybe verbally wasn't coming through for her.

And so we use that now.

Yeah, it's great.

Why don't you take a few minutes and draw?

You know, we give her what I call her blank space.

Her Taylor Swift moments, which is, you know, giving her that downtime to do that process.

That's how she processes.

And I think that's just so important for us to know now about her that like you can you can communicate in so many different ways.

I was like, oh, you know, you never really know what they're saying, but actually how she does it, we do.

So we steer her towards that.

And that's been a very helpful strategy in supporting her and us to be able to have a more productive relationship.

I think there's probably a third strategy that I know you talked about in your workshop but at home we kind of call it the art of the pause and that took a long time for me to learn and I learned this from the therapist initially but I was astounded by how much that helps of just taking whatever that is for you whether you're going into another room for a few minutes a couple deep breaths just waiting before you respond yeah

In a moment, or even giving her a moment to say, you know, we don't have to address this right now.

Let's do this, you know, and that, that changes everything.

And sometimes, you know, I'm not that type of person naturally.

I'm more likely to kind of charge ahead and get something done.
