And so I feel safe when I'm with my people and I want my people to feel safe when they see me.
And that's really the most I can offer because I don't have I'm a journalist, not an organizer, and I'm certainly not Nostradamus.
So I can't predict what's going to happen.
But I am trying to I'm trying to build a shelter.
I don't know.
I'm going to be in the Hamptons.
So when it all goes down.
So I don't I don't know.
I maintain my peace and keep the faith in the company of other Black women.
I feel the safest there.
And that doesn't mean sometimes I'm in the company of other Black women and we're working, we're organizing, we're looking at the landscape and seeing what's happening.
And it does feel good to try to figure out protections for our community.
Other times it's in the company of other Black women and we're like, let's hop a flight to Paris.
Let's go on a beach vacation.
I have a group of women
around me cartels and machetes so i have you know the best group chat it's me angela rye joy reed sunny huston britney packnett cunningham aaron haynes uh alicia garza all the crew um and so that's some trouble right there oh my lord yes
Don is our honorary machete.
But sometimes it's like, hey, just come over in your pajamas and, you know, let's just, you know, talk and hang out and eat and eat and eat and watch TV.
And, you know, I just that is what sustains me.
And that is what I write about in this book, that the power of sisterhood is what pulled me out of darkness and what keeps me in the light.
