Okay, fine.
It's his fault.
Okay, fine.
So my name is Tim, Tim Appleton, and I've been in this area for nearly 40 years or more because I came into the area initially.
I used to work for Sir Peter Scott in Slimbridge as deputy curator, and a wonderful job came up in 1975 to actually create this reservoir reserve, which is at Rutland Water.
The dam was being built at the time.
So there was this great opportunity to do a rewilding thing, if you like, a habitat crater on a scale never actually done in Britain before.
So that was great.
And by about 1992, it had become an internationally important wildflower sanctuary.
And from there, it went on, et cetera, et cetera.
But a little while after I'd been here, probably about six or seven years, I went to a thing called the Game Fair.
Now, the Game Fair, for people who don't know about it, is basically a fair for activities in the countryside, from shooting to fishing, et cetera, et cetera.
But there's nothing for conservation.
And I thought, well, if you can have a game fair, and I'm into birds, we could have a bird fair.
So that's really the history of how it got its name and how in 1989, we held the first bird fair anywhere in the world.
I do it because I'm totally passionate about conservation, raising money for areas around the world that
desperately need the sort of money that we can raise.
We do not and have never raised money in the UK for many reasons, because we know quite rightly that the pound that we raise can probably do three times what it can do in the UK.
Over nearly four decades,
And so there's all these key areas who are desperate for, you know, not just our money, it's the networking that this fair can do.
