How many guys have you known who play in the major leagues who were a wrestler in high school?

I remember Mike Hampton.

I remember Jeff Brantley.

And now I remember Louie Varlin.

Those wrestlers, I remember those guys from high school.

I was afraid of all of them.

They have a different mentality.

And I talked to his brother Gus the other day.

He said, yeah, Louie is a dog, man.

Back when Jeff Blair and I were growing up, a dog was someone who didn't play very hard.

Now a dog is a guy that you want in every sort of fist fight there is.

He just goes out there with a wrestler's mentality, and he throws as hard as he can on every pitch.

He gave up his second earned run of the season the other day.

It came, like, at the beginning of June.

How can that happen?

All five of those.

I'm counting the twins out.

I don't see the twins as a playoff team.

Okay.

But all those other teams, and this is my point about the American League, is you can't count the Orioles out.
