But every year she astounds us all and is one of the first birds back.
The journeys that they make, it puts being stuck in traffic on your commute to perspective, doesn't it?
You know, next time I'm stuck on the M25 moaning about the traffic, I'll think of these birds trying to get across the Sahara without having had anything to eat for a number of days.
And, yeah, it made me think again, I think.

People often say, what gives you hope?
We're seeing all this death and destruction in the natural world.
And I always refer to Rutland Water and say, Rutland Water is the hope I have.
Rutland Water is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
And in that time, since 1976, we've discovered almost 5,000 species of wildlife here, from plants, insects, fungi, birds, of course, which is the most important aspect of the work we do here.
But we're always discovering new species.
We have created this from the ground upwards.
It was created for utilitarian purposes to serve water demand across the East Midlands.
you know, all these really rare species that, as a seven-year-old Tim, I used to dream about seeing, I'm now going out and working with, helping to reintroduce.
