Like if it didn't work, if you did not experience the change or transformation, it wasn't anything wrong with the program.
It was nothing wrong with God.
It was something wrong with you.
And so it teaches you to like hate yourself and to second guess everything.
And so one of the biggest groups of conversion therapy ministries, Exodus International in 2013 shut down.
They're like, this doesn't work.
No one's changed.
Like we've had it all wrong.
They tried to apologize.
And, you know, one of the things most of the folks who led ministries or organizations that did conversion therapy when I was in it have all recanted.
and said, it doesn't work.
This is leading people down a destructive path, but people picked up the mantle and have carried on the work.
And there are all of those groups that I mentioned and they are reframing it.
Like they're very smart to say, don't call it conversion therapy, call it discipleship, call it integrating person's sexuality with their spirituality of choosing, you know, to live your life in alignment with your biblical conviction, or it's a compassionate response to people who are impacted by LGBTQ issues.
And they're using language that sounds very compassionate, very pastoral, very counseling, very wellness, wholeness, those kinds of things.
But it's leading people down this path of self-destruction and self-hatred.
So many.
I mean, I could talk for hours.
But I think one of the big things was that we couldn't have contact with anyone that defected from the program.
We were instructed, like, don't talk to them.
