In addition, I wanted to help teens learn more about their local government as well as providing them with more opportunities for volunteerism and internships.
Um, like many of my panel mates, uh before I joined the youth commission, I was very new to Saratoga, and when I learned about it, I figured out that's a way for me to have a voice in my community.
Um, I think I've met so many amazing people through this and like I'm so happy I joined and it's one of the best thing that's happened to me and I hope everyone considers in this room maybe one day joining it too.
So, my favorite accomplishment was actually our wellness day last year that Campbell Youth Commission hosted.
I loved it because it was an original idea that we came up with, and we got to plan it all the way back from booking the community center to connecting with teams on a deep personal level in a way that was super fun.
We had over 85 participants and many more on the wait list, and it was an event to promote physical and mental health, which we accomplished
By having booths from organizations that were willing to counsel teens if they needed help with their mental health, as well as um.
Puppies from Therapy Dogs so everyone could have fun, bracelet making, plushie making, and many more like booths to help give them new opportunities, new outlets to find a way to express themselves.
And then in order to promote physical health, we were able to open up the gym for a couple hours and give free weight room access to anyone who wanted it.
And it was just super fun and I loved connecting with everyone who went there.
How have your experiences on the commission enhanced your relationship with the government and your community?
Yeah, as a part of the youth commission both last year and this year, I've been able to learn so much more about city systems and exactly how much work the city puts into hosting events for us.
For example, when I was presenting work plans this year, I learned that you know the city has to review everything and there's just a whole process to make even a small thing happen.
In addition, I've learned so much from planning and hosting our own events.

For example, last year we interviewed the Campbell PD and we got to give a tour and ask a couple officers questions about safety tips for an online event that we hosted.
It was really helpful in positively bridging the community with the police by providing insight and just fun facts and making them seem more human almost so that we could um

Um, I think like my other panelists said, I think being in Saratoga, being a Sar Saratoga student myself, I think mental health is a really big issue because let's be honest, I think every single person in this room knows what that's like.
