It's every aspect of government it's going to touch, just like it's going to touch every aspect of our lives.

Yeah.

Well, I mean, the UK's Office of AI wasn't sitting in the equivalent of Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet in the UK.

It was still out in the fringes of government under their Department of Industry.

So yeah, I mean, he has put it right at the center, right next to the cabinet.

So hopefully that empowers it.

You can't get much closer to power than that.

So there is another difference.

When the UK announced its Office of AI, they also announced a billion pounds of spending to see some of the upside, not just to avoid the downsides.

We didn't see the prime minister make any spending commitments.

any investments in the upside.

That's something that still does trouble me.

It's good that he's thinking carefully about the downsides and thinking about how we need to regulate.

It's a bit of a backpedal for the government, let's be honest.

They had said very clearly they weren't planning any new regulation of AI in the past.

Now the Prime Minister is making it clear that they are going to put some regulation in place about, for example, the standards we put on data centres and the way that we protect our children.

Oh, one very clear action is that we've got this digital duty of care being discussed in government.

And that really needs to be expedited.

And not only should that digital duty of care apply to the social media platforms, it should apply to all these AI tools that started to turn up into our lives.
