No one's going to fix our flooding.

No one's going to preserve the Australian environment and find critical minerals for us.

We're going to have to solve those problems ourselves.

Investing in AI talent, investing in AI startups, as I said,

UK put a billion pounds on the table when they opened their office to stimulate some of that sovereign AI development.

We've yet to see the government put similar money, invest in our AI future.

Unfortunately, they've been trying to manage the books very carefully and they've not been spending much money on anything at all.

I think it's very clear that the returns of this are fantastic.

I mean, the Academy of Science has estimated you get $5 back for every dollar you spend on R&D.

Well, none of the infrastructure projects that we build, none of the metro lines and motorways we build give you $5 of economic value for each dollar.

So it's the best money the government could actually spend.

And so I really wish that they would think, well, actually, there's something here where it's actually going to be investing in our future, investing in our children and our grandchildren.

we need to make those sorts of investments.

Of course, you know, at the end of the day, we do need to balance our budget and stop building up a bigger deficit.

But this is one area where I think you can afford to be a bit more generous.

Yeah, no, I think this is really important.

And indeed, one reason why the public's concerned about AI, because they feel like AI is something that's being done to them, that they've not got any agency or choice.

And I think that's really important if we're going to see the benefits.

But do it in an equitable and fair way.

Workers need to feel that they're engaged in decision making.
