In China, it's been taken to an extreme, indeed.
They've passed a law that says you can't fire anyone because of AI.
If a company's the wrong size, you can lay off staff.
You've got to find some other reason than AI to lay off staff.
It can't be AI alone.
I'm not sure that we should be going to such an extreme.
Well, we're prepared to go to such an extreme.
But I think it's wonderful that the unions, employers should be involved in the decision-making as to how AI gets used, where it gets used.
And ultimately, when we're making those big consequential decisions, who to lay off, who to hire, we shouldn't be just leaving it to AI.
We need to have humans who ultimately make those decisions because only humans are accountable.
AI is not accountable for anything.
It's a machine.
The world would stop, I'm afraid.
There's lots of customer service, there's lots of internet companies today that would just completely grind to a halt without the AI doing many of the dull, repetitive things.
It would bring the economy to a halt.
Australia would go into recession.
We know that.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics last quarter figures showed that that spending on AI was the only thing keeping our economy from recession.
we would go into a recession, they'd put interest rates up, their life would become very tough.
So I'm pleased that we're having the AI boom, even if we're going to have to manage it more carefully.
