What I argue in the Federalist piece is that the Trump administration needs to do two things to make sure that a Soweto doesn't happen at the southwest border again.
Two things.
One is they have to withdraw from the 1951 UN Convention on Refugees, which is the requirement that we have an asylum law.
That does it in a certain way.
That is the magnetized.
We've got to demagnetize asylum.
So that can be unilaterally done.
The president can withdraw from that U.N.
treaty.
They have to to make sure that the whole world knows that we're not a part of it anymore.
All I can say is that it's not because it wasn't proposed
It was proposed and pushed.
Maybe it's just competing priorities.
I don't really know what the sausage-making process is on that.
But it's not too late.
