I don't travel outside of Michigan.
And to be honest with you, the name of my business is My West Michigan Wedding.
And so I try to keep it in the West Michigan area.
That's the area I'm most familiar with that I can serve a couple better that way.
Because if I have to travel too far, and I get a lot of requests for Traverse City and Mackinac Island and things like that, Castle Farms, but to travel that far incurs a greater expense.
And for the couple, and I try to be sensitive to the fact that they have a budget.
And so I just try to let them know right from the beginning that I'm going to be in the general Grand Rapids, West Michigan area.
And of course, I do go over to Battle Creek.
occasionally but that's my main focus so pretty much just as your company name states exactly my west michigan wedding and that's kind of why i did that just to help people say oh maybe he's focusing on this area yeah it kind of sets the tone right away are you finding
It certainly affected it, simply because, for the very reason that you say, oftentimes people that are using that type of setup are not having their ceremony in what more traditionally has been like a church setting and things like that, okay?
and churches are a little bit possessive about what happens in their buildings, and so typically the pastor of that church will do the ceremony, and then the couple would go off-site for the reception.
Well, as that has diminished, having come from a church-working background, I know that you're busy enough without having to travel to a wedding, and pastors are often reluctant to do that.
So consequently, they've been very pleased to have other people assume that responsibility.
And so it does go hand in hand.
With moving away from the more traditional settings to a destination or a location, my work with couples has increased.
It seems to be stable.
I haven't noticed any specific trends one direction or the other.
Well, I say that, but honestly, what I'm thinking is that as you look at the culture, there is a movement away from organized religion, okay?
So that is starting to decrease.
And so consequently, couples don't feel so dedicated to staying in the family church.
