I think back to the days of the FBI before 1997 or so when it was illegal to be a gay or a gay FBI agent.
The idea is that you could not be gay and be an FBI agent.
And the theory behind that for the first hundred years of the FBI was that you would be opening yourself up to blackmail if you had a secret that large and a foreign government found out about someone being gay.
They could compromise you.
Yeah, like, we're going to tell your family, and so we want you to steal secrets type of thing.
But I think when FBI Director Louis Freeh got rid of that rule, he did it quite wisely, believing that even straight people could have secrets, that there's nothing unique about the secret of being gay.
