The um calculation one is always making is are the tactics proportionate to the goal?
Is there public support for what is taking place?
Place, um, do we support their cause?
And do we think that their tactics are ultimately legitimate?
So it's not as if in in an environment in which people tried to vote for the borders to be controlled and that was just ignored, if anything, legal and illegal migration soared in the other direction, in an environment in which people have been arrested for raging against illegal migration.

a very rough hand is shown towards anti migrant protesters to a to a degree that is genuinely radicalizing a section of the population.
Then in some way, shape or form, protest is going to be the inevitable consequence and in some circumstances ultimately supportable.

It led to this absurd, sort of literal-minded response, which was, oh, you don't like the migrant hotels, do you?

But nevertheless, it really, what happened in Epping and what happened in other parts of the country, put down a marker in a way that simply hadn't happened purely by Epping returning conservative MPs or
people voting for Brexit or what have you.
So clearly there is a role for protest.
Does that necessarily mean we have to row in behind one individual who for many of us has crept on the scene relatively recently and kind of uncritically endorse him or his group and everything that they're doing?
Of course not.
So that's the kind of position that we find ourselves in.
