Um and it's one of those issues where
I think um clearly there is a role for protest, clearly that is going to change things.
And if nothing else, the government needs to take as a message from all of this, which is that if you want to stop these protests, there's a very simple solution to that.
It's not locking them all up, it's not another crackdown on social media, it's not a new ministry of misinformation as we've been talking about a little bit later on if we've got time.
It's stopping the boats.
And hopefully at some point the penny will drop.
But I as I say I don't think it requires us to whilst we might recognise the legitimacy of protests of direct action in certain circumstances, um, and in even leaders to endorse some of those groups, does that mean we need to uncritically support some of these individuals?

Uh uh such a kind of perfect example of how a a British state which has become a kind of byworth for incompetence and inability to dispatch even its most basic responsibilities towards the life and limb of people in this country, leaping into action at a moment's notice in order to try and escort illegal migrants from their illegal landing to the migrant processing centre.

It's one of those things about this issue is that we often talk about it, understandably so, as an issue of national security, um the safety of women and children, uh social cohesion, all of those things.
Totally legitimate to talk about that.
It's also something a bit more fundamental.
It has raised this question about who the British state is actually for, who it actually serves.
And the the problem to Winston's point about the human rights mindset that exists amongst the Labour Party in particular.
But the political class in general is that um they can bang on about their legal obligations to these people as in the illegal migrants as much as they like.
Yes, on paper they do have a responsibility to help vessels in distress in the channel.
