So that's something which is clearly an indicator of the fact that ethnic minorities do not have the hang-up about admitting the existence of ethnicity than
Some members of the ethnic majority do.
I suppose that the place that I come to on all of this is that even if you are broadly speaking a civic nationalist, someone who recognises that yes, there is an English ethnicity, but also there's a kind of cultural identity that many people have clearly bought into and we shouldn't seek to exclude, you still need to take multiculturalism, mass migration, and the sort of demographic issues which flow from that very seriously.
Because if we keep going.
In the direction that we're going, which is the level of sort of hyper diversity that we see in certain areas.
And if that's met with a denial of even the idea that we should have something to unite around, you're really onto a loser.
And also, I think in in a situation in which more and more areas do become hyper diverse, I also would predict that you're going to see fewer and fewer children of ethnic minority background or of migrant ancestry identifying as English or identifying.
a sort of population which is stable and there's some sort of continuity.
The gravitational pull of the majority culture is just not going to exist.
Will you know can will could they possibly integrate into English or British life if the English, however defined, are not there anymore, if they've kind of retreated to their ethnic enclaves in in the way that we might potentially see.
So it's a it's a really knotty issue, but I think that the fact that this is even big
Being brought up as a discussion point is precisely for the context you set out, Constantine, is that particularly over the past couple of decades, society has changed in quite dramatic ways and it throws up these arguments in a way that we've got to take seriously and can't just dismiss as um something which is unimportant and uh and nor can we pretend like the the way in which we think about identity is going to be unique and different to the way in which we think about it in any other context.

Definitely a naughty issue.
And I hope that doesn't sound like a bent sitting answer, but I'm totally right.
It wouldn't get through the British public as well, which is something that maybe some of the more honest people on that side of the argument would at least accept, which is why they tend to flirt with authoritarianism of all kind of different but um the the f you know, the the diversity of this country such as it is, um, is a is a fact that needs to be reckoned with.
And whilst there's been certainly a lot of discomfort about the speed of change over the past twenty or thirty years, there are also
People across Britain, white English people, if we're gonna go back to that category, who are were were up to a point very comfortable with the level of quote unquote diversity that we had.
The problem is it's sustainable at a certain level, it's not sustainable at another level, and it's certainly not sustainable when you have a policy of state multiculturalism combined with that level of mass immigration.
And I think going back to the kind of ethnicity and culture and culture and ethnicity question, this is something which is really fundamental.
