I could hopefully play a role in reestablishing, but also re-imagining what American leadership means around the world in the 21st century was an incredible responsibility.
The other thing is, and we've mentioned this before, I just think there's a greater premium than there's been in my lifetime on figuring out ways to cooperate and coordinate with others.
So it's not just leadership, it is figuring out those ways to cooperate and coordinate because whether we like it or not,
Anything that we're trying to deal with around the world that affects the lives of the American people We're going to be much better off doing it with others than alone the reality is
If you're trying to prevent fentanyl from coming into this country, we've got to figure out ways to do that with Mexico, with China, with many other countries around the world.
If you're trying to prevent networks of terrorists from being created, you've got to work with other countries to stop that.
If you're trying to prevent a country from getting the kinds of weapons that can easily be shot across continents, you've got to be working with others to exert the necessary pressure.
If you're dealing with aggressor countries, it could wind up creating a larger conflict that draws us in.
You've got to be working with other countries.
If you're looking to deal with COVID, as we saw, if you're looking to deal with food security around the world, all these kinds of things that will have an impact on us, even if we're an ocean away from it.
We're so much better off with others.
