It's what we've seen most teams around the league do.
Even the Oilers, over different stretches over the last couple years, some of it by choice, some of it by force, have ran pretty consistent platoons.
And Devon Levi, he's a young goalie, number one.
Number two, when he got sent down to Rochester, he had an awful stretch in Buffalo two seasons ago in the 2024-25 season.
And then he was dealing with some injuries.
But we're still talking about a goalie who's 24 years old, who over the last two seasons, I think in Rochester, has stopped about 91% of shots.
Different league, weaker quality competition.
I get all that.
But if you're going to take a flyer on a goalie, and I think acquiring him was part of a pick swap, this is the type of bet you make.
Maybe he's just a good goalie.
Maybe he's a journeyman goalie.
We don't really know.
But let me juxtapose this against the Buffalo Sabres, where he was acquired from.
The Sabres and the Oilers, they're almost like brethren over the last decade or so.
Yes, the Oilers have been much more competitive, but these two teams have been hunting for a goalie.
I think I was in high school when the last time either of these teams had a goalie.
They took a flyer on Alex Lyon, who was another kind of like journeyman, a little older than Devon, of course.
More of a journeyman goalie that, you know, is like, we'll take another shot on another journeyman.
And Alex Lyon was fantastic for Buffalo last year.
And one of the real reasons the Sabres bloated in the Eastern Conference was they had average to slightly above average goaltending and then backstopped in front, of course, by a really, really good team at five on five.
