It's good to be with you.

So I was a design ethicist at Google, and that actually wasn't an official role, by the way.

I was a whistleblower inside the company.

I basically said, hey, we're going to set off an arms race for attention.

This is back in 2013.

And that, you know, and then if we don't do something about it, you could see downrange a little bit where this was going.

Oh yeah.

I mean, well, this is the thing.

If you see the incentives, you can see where this is going and you see that the nature of the technology is increasing ability to hijack and harvest human attention.

And that became that race to the bottom of the brainstem for attention that produced the totally insane world that we're now living in across the entire world.

And for me back then, that was like seeing a slow motion train wreck on social media that became documented in the Netflix documentary, the social dilemma.

And, um, and then, uh, so I left, I tried to change Google from the inside.

I couldn't.

And so I left and then started a nonprofit that's been focused on these issues for the last 10 years.

to that.

At first it was hard from being inside, but then as you point out, um, you try to get the government to do something and the lobbying power of the oligarchs is just too big.

However, we did get a major win on that two weeks ago with the 17 billion dollar lawsuit against Meta, which I'm happy to report was kicked off by.
