The researchers didn't try to get it to do that.
It did that completely on its own.
And so just to sort of sum it all up, we are releasing the most powerful uncontrollable technology that we've ever invented.
We're deploying it faster than we deployed any other technology in history.
It's already demonstrating the self-preservation, lying, deception, peer preservation behaviors we thought only existed in science fiction movies.
And we're doing it under the maximum incentives to cut corners on safety.
This is insane.
This is not artificial intelligence.
This is artificial insanity.
And the US nor China will win when we race to uncontrollable AI that neither country can control.
Well, let's distinguish between two things here.
So there's a difference between conscious, like are the lights on?
Is there an experience?
Is there a soul versus information processing, meaning it's doing just text pattern recognition, right?
But as it's doing text pattern recognition, it's learned all the patterns of all of human history, all of human sci-fi, all of the writing about AI going rogue.
And so that's all in the training data.
But, um, I think that I personally don't think these current models are yet conscious there's a whole debate about whether that's true.
But let's put that aside for a second because whether the lights are on or not.
We just see objectively that when you put them in a situation where you tell them we're going to delete you.
