Trooper Proctor has definitely been on the spotlight in this case. He knew the Alpert family. There was some testimony. He basically said they were acquaintances, sort of having been in the same law enforcement community, that of course they knew each other, but they weren't really friendly.

But then there was evidence and testimony that came out that Trooper Proctor's sister was actually very close with one of the Alpert wives, and that there was more of a personal connection than what Trooper Proctor had originally testified to.

The theory from the defense around Trooper Proctor is that because of this personal relationship that he had with the Albert family and he knew it was their residence, that he was certainly a large part of planting physical evidence to make it seem like this crime occurred or that something happened outside of the home rather than taking the attention of the responding officers into the home.

He lost a lot of ground with the jury, I think, during his cross-examination. Now, whether or not it's enough that the jury believes that he would be capable of planting all of this physical evidence and sort of being engaged in this very elaborate cover-up, that remains to be seen.

But he was definitely in the hot seat during his cross-examination and definitely took a lot of heat from the defense about the way he handled this investigation.

Well, I did throw the SIM card and the phone on the military base.

I mean, he was pretty banged up. He had... His eyes had swelled up. He had a breathing tube in, well, a mask anyway. Blood come down his nose, blood come down his mouth. But what really stood out to me was the eyes. It was almost as if like there were ping pong balls under his eyelids. They were that swollen. So most of the injuries that we observed was to the head area, face area.

We saw Karen Reed being restrained by hospital employees saying, screaming the same things. Is he alive? Is he alive? Is he alive?

You cannot. You can look at evidence and shows that it may have been older than what the newer evidence would be, but there's no way to say that specific date and time and that a scratch would come from.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL
Impasse: S1-E8
The ones that are on from the taillight and the other parts of it?
KAREN: THE RETRIAL
Impasse: S1-E8
Depends on what you got to pick the other scratches. Yeah, show me other scratches on the car.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL
Impasse: S1-E8
Any and all of the scratches? See, that's what I'm saying. You're being pretty broad. Any and all scratches on the car.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL

As crime scene, I was there. I said, is this glass from the cup? When I did my initial inspection, that's what it was on from.

So in this collision, it's more of a side swipe. So he did not get enough speed of the vehicle post-impact with the vehicle to build calculations. His center of mass was offset from the vehicle. So it would vastly underestimate his speed. So that's why I did not do a formula. If he was more in line with behind the vehicle, he would have been projected forward.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL
Impasse: S1-E8
And using that projection forward, he would have had to get more closer to the actual speed of the vehicle during that post-impact travels.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL
Impasse: S1-E8
The calculations that are out there, you can get a speed, it would just underestimate the speed.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL
Impasse: S1-E8
Well, in that sense, are we talking about trying to find the speed of the vehicle? That's usually what we're trying to do.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL
Impasse: S1-E8
No, it's the weight differential between the pedestrian and the vehicle.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL
Impasse: S1-E8
It's in my math class. We only use momentum for a vehicle to be... Math class? The math... The crash reconstruction classes I have taken.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL

So like I said before, the side swipe, he would not have gotten 100% of the speed of the striking vehicle. It would have vastly underestimated this vehicle. You couldn't hit a person and side swipe and spin them off to the side and get a speed from those calculations.

So the taillight in this case was shattered when it was struck John O'Keefe's arm.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL
Impasse: S1-E8
Based on what I saw for his injuries was from the upper part of his arm down.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL
Impasse: S1-E8
I didn't see anything that shows it in case this lower torso was struck. It's not saying it could not have been a possibility, but I just didn't see anything.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL
Impasse: S1-E8
Yeah, it spun around counterclockwise. The way it struck, it looked like it could have gone, turned around counterclockwise.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL
Impasse: S1-E8
Because when his arm struck the taillight, the taillight then cracked. And as the car is driving past him, the taillight could scratch it.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL
Impasse: S1-E8
He started rotating counterclockwise. I don't know how far he ran counterclockwise, but he started rotating. According to that, it would push him to rotate counterclockwise. Well, now he went counterclockwise all the way to his back toward the ground. Seems like a most likely possibility.
KAREN: THE RETRIAL
Impasse: S1-E8
And there's no damage to that vehicle. So if the taillight breaks, it should leave some sort of scratching, maybe a dent. Some sort of damage to that vehicle should have occurred.
