No enemy in American history lost as completely as the Confederates and Robert E. Lee.
Why did they do it?
Well, they're doing it to ensure white political power at the expense of black people.
It's all about political power.
What they do is, later on in the 1890s, they create constitutions, which created Jim Crow State.
They put up monuments to say the whites are back in the saddle after Reconstruction.
And then they create a terror campaign of lynching.
5,000 black men, women, and children are lynched.
All of this to create a white police state, which is the South that I was born into.
How then do they promote this?
Well, the most the best one to think about is United Daughters of the Confederacy.
And they create two monuments.
The first monument is in is granted out in front of every courthouse to ensure that black people know the only way you're going in that courthouse is as a defendant or a custodian.
And the most important were children.
And to this day, they're still the children of the Confederacy, where you can memorize the lost cause myth and earn scholarships for that.
And again, that's what is so successful, is to make children, generation after generation, understand that the South was honorable in going to war.
They were honorable generals, and they were the right people at the right time.
And slavery wasn't that bad.
Segregation is okay.
