She had started watching YouTube when she was just six.
She joined Instagram at nine.
She spent enormous portions of her day on these platforms.
At one point, 16 hours on Instagram in a single day.
She said that the constant notifications, the algorithmically recommended posts and videos, the endless stream of new content just kept her on there.
She became very preoccupied with her appearance.
She used all the filters.
She developed body dysmorphia.
And she felt that her use of social media was intertwined with her depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts.
And there are so many other kids like that out there.
