So this shelter met the basic needs such as mills, showers, and clothing while also collecting or connecting people to healthcare, employment, education, and housing referrals with the with the goal of moving moving people towards stability.
That was the model, moving people towards stability.
The hypothermia program operated during the winter months from November first through March 31st, and in 2017, the operation transitioned to Streetlight Ministries as the program evolved into an overnight shelter open seven days a week from 7 p.m.
to 7 a.m.
Then came the covet nineteen pandemic.
The overnight shelter relocated several times from its original site here to Falazzo and then over to Sharon Bakham, the Dell City Rec Center, and then eventually back to Fallazo.
Many individuals require consistent medical and behavioral health support.
And we learned that a night shelter model was not enough.
As a result, the program evolved into a year-round 24, 7 day, 24 hours, 7 days a week shelter.
Even with that expansion, seasonal hyperthermia
Today's
Streetlight Ministries operates Hypothermia East, and Manassas Baptist operates Hypothermia West.
This program aligned with recommendations from the Marbutt Homeless Needs Assessment, which called for adding year-round emergency shelter beds for single adults, particularly adult males.
As we continued evaluating our system, the county researched the homeless.

The goal was not to simply provide shelter, but to create a coordinated pathway towards permanent housing.
