The other just circles around in shame and shame until it drowns you and makes you feel like you could never lift your eyes back up and cry out to God to set you free.
You can feel awful about yourself for 20 years now.
And never once turn back to God.
Feeling bad is not the same thing as being free.
So that's feeling bad is that guilt.
Feeling bad is that shame.
Repenting is turning away from that.
So hear me.
Guilt and shame are not repentance.
You do not have to keep pushing yourself to prove you're sorry.
God is not wanting for you to hate yourself.
He's waiting for you to turn to him.
And I'll tell you the truth.
For a long time, the hardest forgiveness for me to accept wasn't God's.
It was my own.
I could believe that God forgave other people and I can believe that God offered forgiveness.
I could tell you that grace covers everything.
You know, especially when you grow up in the church or around the church or you have dabbled in Christianity, you know the facts, right?
You understand them.
But actually putting those into place are a little bit harder than just, you know, saying them.
