Well, wow, right off the bat, I've got a big messy answer for you because I didn't write this book now.

Long ago, I think like maybe twenty fourteen or something, I gave a talk at TED Med, Ted's medical focus conference.

And immediately started getting people writing me and saying you should write a book.

Sometime around that same year I visited the US Department of Education.

Uh, for some of our younger listeners, that's a thing that used to exist.

And used to actually spend money trying to improve education in the United States, maybe deeply imperfectly, but with uh good intentions.

So I got invited there.

And I gave a talk.

And it was very it was not wildly different than what I write about in this book.

Because it turns out what I'm writing about is people.
