I immediately thought someday that's gonna be the title of a book.
But when I responded to them, with all the things I would do, they responded to
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But like
If it was just a six week job retraining program.
What would you do?
To which I could only respond, I would do nothing, because that wouldn't actually change any of this.
So I started writing that book.
Back over ten years ago.
What inspired me to finally publish this book?
was watching Sam Altman get up in front of the US Congress and say, Imagine a world in which every child has their own AI tutor.
An amazing thing, one that many science fiction fans don't have to imagine because they read the Diamond Age or any number of other books that's full of AI Tudors, another one of a very similar name, that's not the greatest book, but oh it's so full of ideas is called actually the Golden Age, and it's from a similar time period.
So two sci fi plugs, if you can find the latter, I it might be out of print.
But forget the science fiction.
I don't have to imagine it because AI in education has been studied for fifty years.
And if there is a golden rule.
It is that if an AI tutor ever gives students the answers, they never learn anything.
And it's a rule that has been replicated with large language models and and s it's specialized agentic tools.
Generally speaking, once AI gets involved, student learning gets worse.
Not because it has to, not because AI is bad, but because the nature of the interaction between, let's call them the median student.
