And it's functioning as part of it when you use it as your digital source.

But I don't know how many people would consider it really as part of their signal chain, although they should.

But anyway, go on.

you know part of part of the system and other than the main chain it's everything else right and uh it matters because outside of power as you've mentioned and power can be tricky because just about every box in your signal chain has a power supply in it right and so you've got multiple steps where you need to have quality power supplies on each individual component yeah

So that's a big potential for noise right there.

And yeah, things like power conditioners or regenerators or even linear power supplies or at least well-made outboard power supplies that have good shielding on them and use higher quality components and stuff.

And in that sense, component is like electrical component, not system component.

Then they will – those power supplies will, A, generate less noise to begin with, and, B, the noise they do generate tends to be more well isolated from the audio signal path.

Yeah.

So that's important.

Another – the other really big place where noise can come in, particularly on a digital system, is from your source, right?

And so your source is the thing that actually starts streaming the ones and the zeros to your DAC.

So it could be a PC.

It could be your smartphone.

It could be an iPad, right?

In particular, if you're using a computer like a big desktop PC for certain laptops get a little bit better, the smaller they get.

Right.

The devices like that will generate a lot of electrical noise on their own.

They've got all kinds of electrical circuit paths inside of them that are running every which way.
