I'd written those in quite quick succession, and the last one, depending on what metric he measures success by, did all right.
Like, it was, yeah, like, it was on the TS Edit shortlist and a couple of other bits and whatever.
And, um...
So I'm like remembering that I have to look at you occasionally because this is supposed to be like a conversation.
Don't worry about it, no, just look at me.
You sort of do this as authors, you do a bunch of books and then you sort of start shitting yourself a little bit and being like, oh God, is that my thing now or do I just do this?
And I was kind of trying to, I sort of stopped for a bit.
I'd written like these two books, about five pamphlets.
It was locked down.
And I had this conversation with Jack Underwood.
It wasn't supposed to be about anything.
It was just like a casual conversation.
And I kind of mentioned, well, I don't really know what I'm going to do next.
And then for those of you that know Jack, he has this like quite laid back, but slightly campy feel to him.
And he says, so why don't you just write an epic, Wayne?
And then I said, well, I don't really know what an epic means for me.
Like I'm not really one for like linearity or conventional narrative.
And I'm certainly not one for, when I think of an epic, I think of like, you know, in my, I don't know why topless, but in my head topless, like a topless muscly man, like doing a cartwheel away from like an exploding cyclops or something.
And I thought that's not really what I want to do either.
