I feel like I this book made me really the No Book or No Be So Fierce book made me really like look better on Corbett and his own writing and stuff.

He definitely still had some like colonialist um leanings and thoughts and stuff.

Like I don't want to paint him like he was a saint, but he did really, really love India and have a deep respect for the people of India.

That's great.

Because he even though he was like a big hunter and killed a lot of man-eaters throughout his career, he did have a huge respect for the wildlife of India and he would go on to be one of the biggest proponents for Indian wildlife conservation.

There's even a national park named after him now.

And I did want to read a quote from him from the book, No Beasts So Fierce, that says A tiger's function in the scheme of things is to help maintain the balance of nature.

And if on rare occasions, when driven by dire necessity he kills a human being, or when his natural food has been ruthlessly exterminated by man, it is not fair that for these acts a whole species should be branded as being cruel and bloodthirsty.

So even in like the early 1900s, Corbett knew that this isn't in the nature of tigers to kill people.

This isn't something they actually do regularly.

It's extenuating circumstances that we've caused that often lead tigers to end up killing people.

And I love that like this early on, he understood that.

So the more and more I learn about Corbett, the more and more I like him.

Um I'm sure one of our listeners is gonna send an article that's like Corbett kept kids in his basement or something, and they're gonna make me look like I should never have said that he was a good dude, but I do like Jim Corbett.
