Pictou County, Nova Scotia, where I was born.
Uh...
I got lucky.
I was working in Summerside and someone from CBC North heard me the one night that I did a decent job of reading the news and offered me a job in what was then known as Frobisher Bay.
And I admit to having to look at the map after I agreed to take the job to find out where I just agreed to go to.
And it worked out okay.
No, it's not empty.
It's a great big, huge land.
But people... I always found in the communities I lived in, Yellowknife and...
I visited every community in the three territories over my life as a reporter and other jobs.
Within the communities themselves, it's very connected.
And it's a small community lifestyle.
I found it similar to communities that I was familiar with on Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.
Right at the beginning.
So I've never found it remote.
A long way away sometimes, but quite connected and warm.
Well, I've noticed it over the years, but I'm careful with the words I use today because we hadn't seen it yet this summer in Nova Scotia.
It's been what I call to remember more as my youth is still very cool and the water's still quite cold.
But generally, and I noticed it, I particularly noticed it over the years
and my association was back over 50 years with the north, and that's where I really notice it.
