Some fish and migration patterns are changing, and people see the effects of climate change, I think, far more in the further north you go.

I mean, if I think northern people are really welcoming those announcements.

I know northern governments have been lobbying for them for many years.

And so I think in the north,

People are quite positive about those developments.

And my goodness, I go back to the early 1970s.

There was a start to build that Mackenzie Highway, and it didn't quite materialize.

It got as far as Fort Simpson, I think, or maybe a little further.

And now it will extend all the way the length of the Mackenzie River to Inuvik.

And so it's a different country.

It's a different north, but it's also a different south than it was when I started working.

Well, let's roll back.

A few hours before then because all of Yellowknife woke up on a January morning in 1978 to discover that a runaway Soviet satellite had streaked across the sky and had crashed somewhere east of Yellowknife.
