Back in April the Supreme Court in the US struck a blow to a part of the Voting Rights Act that had helped give minority voters more representation in Congress.
That law, passed in 1965, was meant to ensure that the right to vote was not denied because of race.
But the Supreme Court's decision allows Republican-led states to redraw congressional maps and erase Democrat-leaning majority black districts.
Alabama is one of those states that could see its black elected officials lose their seats ahead of the midterm elections in November.
The BBC's Brandon Drennan has visited Alabama to see what this means for the people there.

Right, finally to the Football World Cup, where, well, basically forever, the third place or bronze medal match has been seen as a bit of a joke.

But to be fair to England and France, who've just played this year's, it might have been the game of the tournament so far.
England dominated the first half and were 4-0 up at half time.
A done deal, you would normally think.
Well, not where the French are concerned.
They came back in the second half with two goals from Kylian Mbappe.
And somehow it eventually ended up finishing 6-4 to England.
Watching it in the US, for us, was the BBC's Phil McNulty.
It was an incredible game.
