And they didn't deserve what they got.
But I... I don't want to sound heartless saying it, though.
For Austin, this was not an attack on CHOP.
He says the boys were joyriding.
But at the same time, he does share the basic narrative of a lot of protesters, that what happened to the boys was their own fault.
We can track Austin and his SUV covered in graffiti through a lot of the videos we have from that night.
And as best we can tell, they match his story about the shooting.
Austin says he wasn't really a part of what came next, pulling the boys out of the Jeep, treating them, driving them to medical care.
And he says while medics worked on the boys, people started rifling through the crashed Jeep.
Quite a few people were inside and outside of the vehicle.
And from all my time watching law shows, I'm like, oh man, this is going to be so much more work for the police to figure out what happened.
He noticed one guy in particular.
A big guy who seemed to have kind of a biker look.
He was wearing the leather vest jacket.
In fact, Austin brings up a photo on his phone of a video game character.
He said reminds him of this guy.
A game called Gears of War.
And this video game character is like a kind of very classic looking tough biker guy.
I'm pretty sure it's the guy, the biker guy, who tells them to start picking up all the rounds and all the casings.
This sounds like the same guy captured on camera by Ashley Durellis, that first live streamer we talked to in our investigation.
