If you consider that kind of 10-point deficit of the second half of the game in Castlebar against Roscommon, I think many of us rightly thought that this Mayo team was far too soon for them contending for an All-Ireland Championship at the end of the year.

But just they rode their luck a little bit in those games against Meath and Monaghan.

realistically when Kerry reeled off that 1-4-1-5 in the first quarter of the game you thought this isn't quite working where two or three kick passes were playing David and Paddy Clifford into scoring positions but after that Mayo just continued with the process that they were going with in the first half it won't work for every team because maybe you need two teenagers in that inside forward line maybe you need someone like Ryan O'Donoghue who's willing to maybe affect his own game a little bit by working in the way he does from the full forward position he was so key to the way that they played and

Like across the game, they got 10 turnovers on Kerry.

I can't think of the last time that's happened to Kerry, particularly this Kerry team, who are so efficient in possession and are so good generally at beating the press.

But Mayo scored one eight from Kerry possessions that were turned over yesterday, which just speaks to that work rate that Andy has brought in.

I think Paddy Talley

It's probably worth a mention.

I know we've mentioned Conor Boyle and Keith Higgins and some of the other Mayo guys who were involved, but obviously Paddy Talley's been heavily involved in structuring this Mayo defence.

It's incredibly risky when you decide to go man-to-man in a world of zonal marking and in a world where the rules now favour the attacking team, and Mayo still decided to go with that type of bravery throughout the game, which makes their story all the more compelling.

Somebody obviously believed an awful lot.

So they obviously believed before they even went to the game.

And I was listening to Shane Fitzgerald, who was the fan that's gone viral and all around the world, who was crying and praying at the full-time whistle.

I think he probably summed up the way a lot of Mayo people felt.
