But we kick things off with the new government jet which may struggle to land in fog because the state requested that an Israeli system would not be included.

That new navigational system is made by an Israeli company.

This is from a report that was in the journal this week and I'm delighted to say that Niel O'Connor from the journal is with us.

Nile, welcome to the programme.

Um, can you give us the background of this?

Because we all remember the cost of the government jet and it being talked about initially.

It was eventually delivered at the tail end of last year, and now you've discovered some significant maintenance that's gonna be required.

So just bring the listeners up to speed with where what happened with this government jet and it being delivered without this uh maintenance system or this uh navigation system, I should say.

Because it seems to me this was a you know strategic decision because you reached out for comment to the Department of Defence and they were saying that, you know, effectively this doesn't make a massive difference to the operational quality of the machine itself.

Okay.

Um forgive me for asking what seem might seem a very simple question, but why did they have concerns about this being an Israeli piece of technology then?

Okay, interesting.

The maintenance story then, as you say, is is separate, but it's related to um you know, this jet is probably going to be out of commission for a little while now.

So some of the maintenance is possible here in Ireland, but as it works out, they're gonna have to go to either the UK or Switzerland for some other piece of maintenance.

So tell us why.

Okay, hopefully they've agreed a decent fee to uh maintain it themselves.
