I wasn't always this grizzled old gray guy that you see standing in front of you right now.

Once upon a time, I was this scared 12-year-old kid laying in a bed at Cox North Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

For two months I laid there, recovering from a farm accident that would change my life forever.

And right here's where it happened.

This is the family farm that I grew up on in Brighton, Missouri.

And this tree was just a little tree when I was 12 years old.

But I laid right here on the ground, just a few feet from this tree, for over two hours, waiting on an ambulance to show up, to give me the critical triage treatment that I needed, and to get me to the hospital for the critical care that my body had to have.

The story of that day is a very common story in rural America.

I don't want to show the houses that are here now because I don't have the permission of the homeowners.
