They're the experts.

They're

judgment should carry the day and the president should have a a big, healthy distance.

And the precise contours of that are not defined, but that's the general gist.

But I wonder how that fits in with how the Constitution is supposed to work, as we focus on here on this show.

Article two, of course, says that the executive branch powers all in a president.

So in in the president.

Is it a departure from that constitutional intent and design to repose too much power in the career DOJ officials?

To me, one of the hard parts is the tension between politics and democracy, right?

Because the president is elected by

The one time all the people come together and vote on something is is the presidency.

And so he's got

incredible democratic legitimacy from that.

compared to somebody who doesn't run for election and is and is hired.

And that's not a criticism of the career officials, it's just a looking at it from that perspective.

But on the other hand, the president's a politician.

and and has political rivals and grievances.

And so it's really hard to, you know, say, well, you gotta get politics completely out of it 'cause when you do that, in some ways you're also taking the democratic

underpinnings out of it as well.

So how do you strike that balance, Laurie?
