Episode seventeen
I've got used to getting slightly strange deliveries into the bib.
Because we're an antiquarium bookshop, we have bright yellow signs encouraging people to donate their old book collections to us, and people often take us up on it.
They get to get rid of boxes of books cluttering up their homes, and we get to rifle through them and pick out any hidden diamonds they don't know the real value of.
We also frequently come across some obscure and out of print books that particularly interest the more esoteric section of our customer base.
That said, the downside is pretty predictable.
Quite often we receive old, heavy boxes from someone's attic covered in thick layers of dust that look like they haven't been touched for years.
On opening, rather than an exotic antique tome worth thousands, we find an assortment of rubbish.
Old wooden train sets, video cassette tapes, photographs.
And then more unpleasant things, like sandwiches that went out of date thirty years ago, and on one occasion a mouse.
Needless to say, all but one of the Bibbs cohort were not best pleased with that unwanted visitor.
When I opened up the shop this morning, I found a pile of a couple of donation boxes Nancy had left for me to sort.
And I eyed them suspiciously, wondering what they had in store for me today.
I carried one over to the till desk and slid a pair of scissors along the taped up edge to open it.
I sighed when it looked like a collection of someone's accounts or personal files.
