My guys, Tony Jones and Sam Amig of The Athletic, put out a report, a story, whatever we're calling it, about the Nuggets basically conceding that they have to hit the trade market quite vigorously. And specifically, they'd like to add some level of shot creation to this team so that what I would assume that it's just taking pressure off of Jokic.
Like, this idea that he should play an entire season, where he is the Venus, the Mercury, the sun of every single Nuggets possession on offense, they feel like is unsustainable. And they want to get a guy in, which I thought, you know, I thought before the Warriors got Dennis Schroeder, I love Dennis Schroeder for the Nuggets for that very same reason.
And they put out a list of guys that they said they've looked into recently. Jordan Poole, Jordan Clarkson, DeAndre Hunter, Cam Johnson, and Jonas Valanciunas, guys that they looked into in the past, but now that they've zeroed in on this shot creation situation, they've zeroed in on Zach Levine.
And I'm just looking, you know, as the year sort of winds down and looking to the horizon of next year of things to look forward to, I just want to see Denver resolve what they see as their biggest roster issue. I want to see how they ultimately resolve that because quite frankly, that's been their opposite approach for two years now, right? Lose Bruce Brown. instrumental to their championship.
Ah, don't worry. We got young guys to fill in and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Lose KCP. Another guy, instrumental to what they did for the championship. Nah, no problem. We got young guys. We're going to plug them in. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. We need Westbrook in. Blah, blah, blah.
So they've taken a sort of hands-off approach the last two off seasons, but it seems now, you know, 25 games into the season that they've realized the error of their ways and they're changing course. So I got my eye towards that for sure.
Put that next to Nikola Jokic, Rob. That might look nice.
Yeah, obviously this would not be a perfect trade by any means. Look, if you're being charitable to this idea, if you look at their offense when Jokic isn't on the floor, it's absolutely atrocious. Yes, you can say they don't need offense when Jokic is playing.
when he's playing, they play offense at the level of the best offense in the NBA, which is quite impressive when you consider how these other guys have played. However, when he's resting, they're god-awful. It's unwatchable. It's terrible.
And so if the idea is like, yo, we get another guy in there who's of a high quality, and then when he is playing with Jokic, you know, we take it from, you know, better than the league's best offense to, like, The league's best offense by leaps and bounds because this guy is so much more dynamic than Porter Jr. I get it. But, yeah, defensively, you know, when Porter Jr.
is right on defense, he is adding a size component. When you add that to Aaron Gordon, like, that, you know, has been very effective in the past in big moments. Zach Levine notoriously just – Bad on defense. Just not a good defender. And, yeah, like you guys said, the injury component.
And then, of course, because this is Denver and we always have to consider the financial implications, you know, 43 mil this year. 46 mil next. And then what is that? 48.9 player option, which I can break the suspense for you guys, folks. He's going to exercise that player option. Yeah, so it's tough. 50 million basically each season after this one. Yeah, it's a lot.
So here's where, you know, I always compare this Jokic to LeBron. And when I think about Jordan Poole or Jordan Clarkson, what comes to mind is Boobie Gibson, Delonte West.
