Like I had my like close group of friends who, you know, they all had their own things going on.

And at the time I didn't realize like how much attention they really were paying to me.

But yeah,

I grew to be kind of resentful, like kind of just felt like left behind, like while I was living at the fraternity house, I really leaned into like the pot smoking because it was it gave me an identity and a reason to like not be going out to the bars other than my injury.

I never wanted to be viewed as like the guy like just I didn't want that to define me.

And that also kind of

pushed me towards like the wrong crowd.

You know, I had pretty much an unlimited access to Norco's, the hydrocodone painkillers.

I would trade them for something as simple as like a Chipotle burrito or Adderall or pretty much like anything.

It was like a bartering system and got

probably like to the worst point where so like the narcos like the actual opiates like embedded in aspirin or acetaminophen so like if actually if you take too many of those you'll overdose on aspirin before the actual painkiller

But then somebody taught me the method of cold water extraction, which was you would boil them in hot water and then let it cool.

And when it's all dissolved, when it boils and then cools down, the actual opiates would fall to the bottom.

solidify first so then you filter it like through a coffee filter and now you have like pure opiates and it was like that's still that first semester i was back at school my like i had my own room my door was like completely open one other guy in there with me and we were doing that and literally just snorted it off my desk like people walking by like no shame in it whatsoever and

And my buddy Bobby is another one I went to high school with and also Purdue, very close with him.

He walked in, saw what was going on, didn't really comment on it, just went back to his room down the hall, waited for the other guy to leave, and immediately walked in with my friend Ben, I mentioned.

He's the one who came in and stood behind my hospital bed

And they're like, Zach, we need to have a talk.

And I was immediately defensive.
