And like I said, everyone around me had a much more difficult job than me in that moment.

And probably in some ways, a more traumatic experience.

That night, once I got loaded onto the stretcher,

the paramedics were trying to encourage me to stay awake.

I was drifting off a little bit and that's what kind of led to me thinking like, all right, I'm going to slip away at any point and this will all be over and that's okay.

Like the party will go on without me and I won't have to worry about anything anymore.

But when I finally got up to the ambulance, you know, my brother wanted to get in.

Paramedics said no.

So he got in a car with my uncle.

They followed.

And one of the last things I remember that night was I asked the paramedic, like, is it okay to sleep now?

And he said, yeah, we got you.

You can rest.

And I thought that was the last time I would sleep.

So being in rural Wisconsin, there weren't many options as far as elite medical care.

I was taken to like a rural emergency room and I did come back into consciousness at least once that night.

Now there were more people around, other aunts and uncles that lived somewhat in the area.

They made it there before my parents.

I remember opening my eyes in the emergency room, you know, chaos, like doctors, everything.

But my brother was there.
