The cost of living crisis has put pressure on almost every part of people's lives and healthcare is no exception.

When money is tight, you know, the first things to go are the things that you think aren't a necessity or something that you think can be delayed or done down the road.

And medical appointments, for example, is one of those first things that gets cut by people.

And that's certainly what the research tells us.

Unlike rent or groceries, a doctor's visit can feel like, oh, I can do that in a few weeks.

And like that is an issue in and of itself.

And the problem is that putting it off can often make it worse.

And it also disproportionately affects young Aussies who may not have the savings, the private health insurance or the established relationship with a GP that older generations might have.

And I want to unpack what we learned from our audience in regards to this.

I do want to point out that there was a New South Wales government survey that found 72% of people are quite or extremely concerned about the cost of healthcare and 48% of adults are already cutting back on healthcare appointments.

This is a demographic that is really impacted by this kind of concurrent crisis and understand what behaviours have changed, but what's also stayed the same.

Well, interestingly, when we asked our audience whether they have a regular GP, the large majority of them said they do.

It's a positive starting point.

If you have the relationship with a GP that you trust, for example, I have a preference for seeing a female GP and it took me ages to find one that I trust and now I have developed that relationship over the past few years.

And it seems like there is at least that starting point where there are young people who have GPs that they trust.
